Montague County Special Education Program for Children with Disabilities provides services for children age’s birth through 21. If you are aware of a child who is suspected of having a disability, please contact your local school district or the Montague County SSA for information about screening and evaluation at no cost.

Public schools in Texas provide for the special education of children who have a disability. Children with identified physical, mental, perceptual, speech, language, social and/or emotional disabilities may be eligible for the program. Children with vision and/or hearing problems may be eligible for services beginning with birth. Districts will use the information from variety of sources to determine eligibility according to Texas Education Agency guidelines.

The services provided are developed by the Admission, Review, and Dismissal committee. This committee typically consists of the child’s parents, an educator, an administrator, and someone involved with testing. Each child’s program is individualized to meet the child’s needs.

SSA Staff

The Montague County SSA provides services in the areas of speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavioral support, instruction for the visually impaired and hard of hearing, orientation and mobility, diagnostic evaluations and records retention.

Operating Procedures

The Montague County SSA Special Education Operating Procedures are designed to be consistent with the State policies and procedures developed pursuant to the IDEA. Special Education Operating Procedures are not to be for the purpose of creating a requirement that is not otherwise imposed by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (“IDEA”), together with its implementing federal regulations, state statutes and rules, as they shall from time to time be amended, and shall not be construed to create a higher standard than that established by IDEA.
